The 52nd Regiment, 1st Battalion

No. 116 Captain Patrick Campbell1

United Services Club London, 22 November 1834

ADD MS 34703, FO 307

Sir

In acknowledging the receipt of your letter of the 17th instant with its enclosures I beg leave to state, that having been on leave of absence, I was unable to join my regiment until about four o’clock2 on the memorable 18th of June. I found it drawn up in line with the [95th] Rifles on its left, I think about an hour after I joined we were very sharply engaged with an immense column of the enemy who appeared to me to be retreating and in confusion,3 about this time the Duke came up to the left of the regiment, and was very much exposed to a sharp fire of musketry.

Major General Sir J. Colborne commanded the regiment and he can give you every information respecting its position from its commencement.

I regret much it is not in my power at this late period to assist you with any information worthy of your notice further than what I have stated.

I have the honour to be, Sir, your most obedient servant,

P CAMPBELL LATE 52nd REGIMENT
